Joining an incident assigns you to the incident. Your location is marked in relation to the incident and your involvement becomes visible to others viewing or involved in the incident.
Viewing an incident allows you to see all the information about that incident as if you were assigned to it, but does not allow you to make any changes to the incident, or show you as participating personnel to other users.
